Agent Interview Checklist

Does the Agent...

  • Have an active real estate license in good standing?
  • Have a reputation for trustworthiness?
  • Know the area you are interested in and regularly sell homes here?
  • Have the time to work with you?
  • Have years of experience in the business?
  • Have a professional demeanor?
  • Can the Agent work with under a Buyers Agency or other relationship that you find acceptable?
  • Have a personality you can relate to?
  • Interview you regarding your needs, wants, and lifestyle?
  • Listen attentively?
  • Return phone calls promptly?
  • Answer real estate questions in a manner you can understand?
  • Provide you with a list of properties he or she is showing you?
  • Show you properties that suit your needs?
  • Belong to a real estate board and a multiple listing service (MLS)?
  • Qualify you for a loan or refer you to someone who can?
  • Complete a closing cost estimate for you?
  • Provide you with recommendations of lenders, mortgage brokers, inspectors, estate attorneys, movers etc.?
     

Working with a Top Agent 

Here is what you should expect when working with a top Agent:

Communication: Top Agents must be excellent communicators; it is the Agentís job to listen to the needs and desires of the buyers, making sure that all avenues of the buying process are completed from interviewing the client, down to making sure there are pens to sign with at closing. Great Agents put you in contact with lenders, inspectors, title companies, insurance agents, giving you a variety to choose from so that you can be sure you are getting the best representation possible. Great Agents are full of enthusiasm and energy, always willing to go the extra mile. Great Agents work with your best interest in mind. Great Agents hold your hand every step of the way.

Education: Working with a top Agent gives you the best opportunity to find the lake property of your dreams and have an overall relaxing real estate experience, but it also gives you the opportunity to learn a little about the industry. Feel free to ask your Agent questions, that is what he or she is there for, your Agent should not feel insulted or frustrated if you ask questions, you are making a major life decision, you deserve answers.

Confidentiality: Top Agents know when to keep their mouths shut; they understand that what you tell them when they are representing you as a Buyers Agent is to remain between you and the Agent. Top Agents understand what they can and cannot disclose.

Loyalty: You donít have to worry about where you stand with a top Agent, when they are working for you they have your best interest in mind at all times.

Honesty: A great Agent will look you in the eye and tell it to you straight, remember if you feel like they are not telling you something, it may be because they canít.

Due Diligence: Top Agents go out of their way to make no rock is left unturned, they will go the distance to make sure everything is done in the most effective and efficient manner.
